On Copyrights ...

I just came up with this thought:

"If the movie was aired on a public channel then it's ok to download it!"

Nice theory though let's debate...

- If your method turns out to be illegal will you still download movies?

* If the answer is Yes...
- Wouldn't it be better for you to download the movie whether it had been broadcasted or not at first place?

* If the answer is No...
- Would buying copies from Hawalli be ok?

:P

The TV station has already paid the studio the movie's royalties to air it to the masses.

That doesn't give YOU (one of the masses) the permission to get a free copy, since YOU didn't pay any royalty to have a copy of your own.

I don't know if the fees paid by the TV station allows it to keep a copy of the movie & air it any time, or to just air it once, but I think they get to keep it & air it any time, since MBC has been repeating the same movie over & over & over...

Yes ;( but I'm trying to stop this! I don't want to keep stealing movies ;(
let them lower their prices

Yes ;(

MBH:
let them find a way so that we dont steal anymore! let them sell the downloaded version of the movie for 2.99$ and i will start buying :p

here is what i was thinking when i wrote this:
1- when a movie is aired on a public channel, i can record it
2- i can then watch the movie whenever i want
3- now it doesnt matter, if i downloaded it from the net, or i have watched the recording i have

hmmm

is recording a movie an illegal thing to do?

u can't to redistribute it = u still don't own it

Nemo said...

what if i wanted to keep it to myself only?

مريم الفلاسي said...

u don't own it either, i.e. it is still illegal, remember the line "You are not allowed to copy this film...etc"..

if u purchased a DVD and copied it (say for backup), it would also be illegal (=you do not own it), even if you are NOT going to give/sell it to anyone. That's why they came up with bluray CDs.

Most of copy right laws are in fact stupid.

i totally agree with you - they created tiVo for that, so it has to be ok !

For my conscious sake I’m agreeing with you :D hehe

I'd like to correct "Mi":

It's everyone's RIGHT to make a backup copy of your own media.

This of course does not justify the act of the gaming industry and locking their media. This is why there are crackers: To assure that the consumers get their rights.

LOL. Well, for me I make a more solid statement. I have a DVD with hard disk to record. If for example Showtime screws up, we get Scrambled error, or shifted wide screen, then it's OK to download it. If it was on public channel, it will most likely be shown again so I'll just wait :)

Does it sound more fair?
